Join us for this New 1-Day Intensive Masterclass on The Art of Gilded Raised Gesso! Pastiglia is is an ancient technique used in the art of Traditional Water Gilding. Its raised characteristic was used as Relief ornamentation for frames dating back to the Italian Renaissance and discussed in Cennini’s 15th c Treatise Il Libro Dell’Arte. It remains an intriguing decorative element today for Frames, Panels, and Furniture.
Students will be guided through the process of making and gilding Pastiglia Relief including: - preparing the rabbit skin glue size and gesso - drawing the raised gesso design - applying clay bole - gilding and burnishing in 23k gold leaf.
All levels are welcome to this much-anticipated gilding class with Gilder and Teacher Charles Douglas! We will be working with a combination of pre-gessoed designs that can be gilded and burnished in one day while students will also learn to make their own gesso and clay bole and draw their own Raised Gesso designs. Everyone gets to take their projects home!
Note: Gesso and Clay Bole Recipe Printouts will be provided during class.
A Materials list and Gesso/Bole Recipes will be provided upon Registration.
*Materials: Students will just need to bring 1 Booklet 23k Gold Leaf (Loose Leaf) to class. Substitutions are fine but must be Loose Leaf. A Promo Code and Website Link for Gilded Planet will be provided upon Registration. (Leaf may be purchased during the day of class.)
All Other Materials are Included in Tuition.
