Verre Églomisé – Gold Leaf on Glass
Online training in traditional and contemporary verre églomisé techniques.
Verre églomisé is the art of reverse glass gilding, where gold leaf is applied to the back of glass to create luminous, durable decorative surfaces. The technique combines careful surface preparation, leaf handling, and finishing effects such as abrasion, patina, and painted detail.
In collaboration with Charles Douglas Gilding Studio, these classes introduce both historic and contemporary approaches, making verre églomisé accessible to frame makers, sign writers, glass artists, and designers.
Verre Églomisé - Glass Gilding
A new 6 week Intensive Online Gilding Course introduces students to the art of Verre Églomisé with a focus on achieving a proper balance between brilliancy and bonding between the gold and silver leaf and the glass. Explore the beautiful artistry of gilded mirrors In both Modern solid gild and abraded ‘antique’ Finishes. Learn to gild with precious 23k gold and 6k white gold leaf, choose the appropriate oil paint for ‘backing up’, and etch designs into gilded glass, an historical approach to verre églomisé.
Gilder Charles Douglas, who began his gilding career glass gilding with the Visual Merchandising Dept. at Saks Fifth Avenue, brings his classes from New York, Seattle, Ontario, and San Francisco to an Online format through Zoom where students are guided step by step through this ancient artform. All levels welcome!
All classes are Live on Zoom and Recorded for viewing. Recordings remain accessible for six months!
This is an 6 session class for a total of 9 hours. Each session is 90 minutes.
