Sacred Gilding...Gilding The Buddha…This Sacred Gilding Masterclass takes students on a journey to the ancient practice of gold leaf gilding of a Buddha.

We begin with the sound of the Tibetan Singing Bowl followed by a brief discussion of the use of gilding in Sacred practice with an emphasis on the technical use of the Mordant Gilding method. A non-animal water-based adhesive is used in the beautiful gilding of the Buddha in genuine gold leaf.

The two 1-Hour-long Masterclass focuses on four elements:

- Preparing the Buddha with an undercoat to seal tthe surface and provide a sympatheticc color underneath the Gold Leaf

- Applying a Water Based Mordant and Gilding in genuine gold leaf

- Cleaning the gold with clear, pure cold distilled Water

- Using the water-based adhesive with an alternative Brass Leaf will also be demonstrated with the use of toning mediums for an aged affect

Gilder and Teacher Charles Douglas will guide students in full detail through each step of the Mordant Gilding method as he works on a small Buddha, representative of one of the 29 named Buddhas while using the traditional gilder's tools. ~
