This popular 3-day class is designed for Fine artists in Egg Tempera, Oils, or Acrylics and takes the student on a journey through each step of the ancient traditional water gilding method. Students learn the laying and gluing of linen, preparing and applying gesso and clay bole, gilding and burnishing genuine 23k gold leaf with an intriguing introduction to granito, the technique of punchwork and incision for decorative embellishment.

Developed for the Fine Artist as well as the student of Iconography and framing, this unique class addresses each specific step of the process. Materials are included and students may use the studio gilding tools during class (optional gilding kits are available through gildedplanet upon request).

For the 2023 Seasons of Winter, Spring, and Fall we will bring a special decorative element to our study of Traditional Water Gilding:

Winter includes Granito which involves Punchwork and Incision using punches, a pointed agate burnisher, and a lightweight mallet.

Spring includes Pastiglia, the art of gilded raised gesso

Fall includes Sgraffito where we make and apply traditional egg tempera to our gilding and etch our own designs through the paint revealing the underlying burnished gold leaf

Materials are included and students may use the studio gilding tools during class (optional gilding kits are available through gildedplanet).
